Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Conduct cultural resource fieldwork and monitoring in coordination with the client’s cultural resource leads.
  • Develop and recommend plans for cultural resource fieldwork, such as plans for pedestrian survey, subsurface testing, and site monitoring. When needed, conduct background research, field inventories (including subsurface testing) and generate resulting reports that, depending on nature/type of project, meet the requirements of various state historic preservation offices, tribal historic preservation offices and other consulting parties.
  • Balance and prioritize numerous projects simultaneously; track / monitor program and/or project expenditures, alerting appropriate client manager and/or Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) of potential issues / concerns.

Requirements

Education and Corresponding Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or directly-related field is required.

Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or directly-related field is preferred.

5 years professional work experience required with an applicable bachelor’s or master’s degree.

Relevant professional work experience must include:

2 years professional work experience or equivalent specialized training in archaeological / cultural field research, administration or management is required.

A professional in prehistoric archaeology requires at least one year of full-time professional experience in the study of archaeological resources of the prehistoric period.

  • A professional in historic archaeology requires at least one year of full-time professional experience in the study of archaeological resources of the historic period.

Required Technical Skills and Experience:

  • 6 months of supervised field and analytic experience in Columbia River Basin archaeology.
  • Rudimentary knowledge of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and section 106 of the NHPA.
  • Experience in conducting archaeological field inventories and producing written technical reports.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Archaeological experience within the client’s service territory (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, California, Nevada, Wyoming).
  • Knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act.
  • Understanding of GIS and GPS technology.
  • Knowledge of reservoir impacts to historic properties, electrical transmission systems, and fish and wildlife mitigation programs.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License is required.
