Job Description

The Route Supervisor oversees and coordinates daily transportation and delivery operations to ensure efficient and compliant routing of drivers and vehicles. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and in-depth knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other federal, state, and local transportation and safety regulations. The Route Supervisor is responsible for ensuring all drivers operate in a safe and efficient manner while meeting service and delivery standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily routing, dispatching, and delivery operations.
  • Ensure driver compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular route audits to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records related to driver logs, vehicle inspections, and route performance.
  • Monitor and coach drivers on performance, safety practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with maintenance staff to ensure vehicle readiness and timely repairs.
  • Provide training and support for new drivers and ensure proper onboarding practices.
  • Respond to and investigate accidents, incidents, or regulatory violations and implement corrective actions.
  • Work closely with operations and logistics teams to meet delivery schedules and customer expectations.
  • Stay current on changes to relevant transportation and safety laws and update internal policies accordingly.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transportation, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet operations.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), DOT (Department of Transportation), and relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in routing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Combination of office and field work; requires occasional travel to job sites and inspection of fleet operations.
  • May involve working outside normal business hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
