Dimensional Inspector II

SUMMARY:

Performs dimensional inspections and reports results on machined parts, welded assemblies and received components. Capable when trained in using various inspection tools including calipers, micrometers, profilometer, and Keyence CMM equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Uses tools like calipers, micrometers, and CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines) to measure and inspect parts for accuracy.
  • Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
  • Inspects materials received, work in process and finished products using conventional inspection instruments to ensure conformance with work orders, blueprints, engineering drawings and specifications.
  • A strong understanding of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Evaluates data and writes reports to document results to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Strong computer skills utilizing various software programs to create dimensional maps, report results and evaluate inspection data.
  • Responsible for coordinating inspection requirements, scheduling, and associated documentation and records.
  • Must maintain inspection process and documentation in compliance with the Quality System requirements.
  • May help maintain and perform calibrations on inspection equipment.
  • May help mentor and train other team members in the same inspection methods as proficient in.
  • May be trained as a Quality System auditor.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but is expected to assist in mentorship of other inspectors.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years of experience performing inspection activities.
  • Dimensional Inspection Experience Preferred.
  • Minimum Highschool Diploma or GED Equivalent. (must provide documentation at hire)

SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Must become proficient in receipt inspection and dimensional inspection.
  • Must be proficient in interpretation of drawings and specifications.
  • Must have a proficient understanding of quality documentation
  • Must be proficient using computers and using standard office products. (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to pass a Visual Acuity with or without correction to Jaeger J1. (Includes color blindness exam)
  • Ability to utilize hand-held measurement tools, e.g.. calipers, micrometers, bore gages, steel rule, tape measure, etc.
  • Ability to learn to operate Keyence CMM equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to document inspection data and write reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization, customers, and suppliers.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, OTHER:

GD&T Training and Demonstrated Ability in CMM Equipment Operation preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

PAY RANGE:

$23.00 to $29.00 per hour.
