Job Description

Momentum Glass is seeking a Preconstruction Estimator to join our growing Preconstruction and Business Development team. Momentum Glass is a forward-thinking glazing specialty subcontractor providing innovative façade solutions to construction markets within Texas and beyond.

The Preconstruction Estimator is a member of the company business development team. Responsible for supporting the sales process including project identification, material takeoffs, vendor quote/estimate management, shop and field labor estimation, and project pipeline tracking. Work will be submitted for review and approval to allow multiple levels of verification for all bid information being submitted. As part of the introduction to Momentum Glass’ business processes, other duties may be asked to be performed from other departments including jobsite visits, production shadowing, administration, and/or documentation in efforts to provide growth and experience to the role.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: The following provides a high-level overview for this position. Duties and responsibilities may be reviewed and revised periodically throughout employment.

Business Development :

  • Coordinate with the Preconstruction Director and General Managers to execute priorities and objectives.
  • Monitor, track projects through various sources, including subscription databases to identify new opportunities.
  • Maintain project pipeline database and update regularly to track win/loss success rate.
  • Along with the Preconstruction Director, develop relationships with key clients, subcontractors, material suppliers and other consultants necessary for the preparation of estimates and the success of the sale.

Estimation :

  • Perform detailed material takeoffs for glass, aluminum, and accessories; check peer work in triple-review process
  • Develop fabrication labor, field labor, equipment estimates with execution details and schedules input from ops
  • Attend scope meetings with contractors/architects/developers, as needed, to support the Pre-construction team
  • Coordinate with vendors to secure pricing for bids; maintain buyout log prior to Project Manager handover
  • Prepare and manage the creation of detailed estimates and proposal packages
  • Prepare materials and initiate pre-bid Estimation Kick-Off meetings (to review scope and proposal outline w/ Ops) and post-award Project Handover meetings (to review project estimate/scope w/ PM)
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Production, and Field leaders to integrate lessons learned from projects to continuously improve project estimation
  • Support and review subcontract scope details and/or purchase order details, when needed
  • As required, provide support for operations regarding post-contract scope changes and change order creation for a reasonable time until project management can take over with complete understanding of the specific project demands.

Education/Experience : A university degree in construction management, engineering, business or a related field is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in construction is preferred. Experience with CAD software and/or 3D modelling software is a plus.

Language Ability : Ability to read, analyze, and interpret: construction plans, technical drawings, general business periodicals, procedures, and specifications. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and prepare project documentation. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, customers, clients, and the general public.

Math Ability : Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks related to pre-construction / estimation and general project and business-related analysis. Ability to apply mathematical and statistical concepts such as exponents, probability, and permutations.

Reasoning Ability : Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract or concrete variables.

Computer Skills : To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an advanced level of knowledge and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite, and Bluebeam. Top candidates will have prior experience working with AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit.

Certification and Licenses : None required.
