We are currently seeking a Laboratory Technician - Cell and Molecular Biology with the National Institutes of Health.

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS. The contractor shall:

  • Perform routine and complex lab experiments according to established protocols and aseptic technique, including tissue culture, cell separation, protein assays, Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Process, describe, analyze, and simultaneously organize multiple specimens and samples (e.g., blood, tumor tissue), including embedding, cataloging, storage, retrieval, and database updates.
  • Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot a wide range of laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring they are prepared, functioning, and available for experiments.
  • Execute preventive and advanced equipment maintenance, track performance and service schedules, run controls, document maintenance, and coordinate waste pickups.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records by collecting, entering, and updating experimental data in notebooks, spreadsheets, and databases; assemble results for analysis and presentations.
  • Analyze, summarize, and interpret study data for completeness and validity, prepare reports and graphics, and present findings to the research team.
  • Manage inventory of supplies, reagents, and consumables; prepare buffers/fixatives/solvents, replace expired materials, and initiate purchase orders to keep the lab stocked.
  • Support cell line maintenance and primary cell culture work; prepare materials and equipment for experiments and ensure specimen readiness.
  • Adhere to quality control procedures and sample governance policies to ensure testing accuracy, compliant storage, authorized retrieval, and proper chain of custody.
  • Train staff in lab techniques, equipment use, safety practices, and protocol compliance, and help keep required safety courses and certifications current.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  • Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences or other related field
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in Life Sciences
  • Field of Study - Biology - Genetics - Physiology
  • Software - PowerPoint - MS Project - NIH POTS - Outlook - Excel - Word
  • Skills - Experience working with lab equipment - Performing biological research - Knowledge in managing hazardous waste
