Location: Hybrid in New York, NY (preferred)

Reports to: Chief Brand Officer and Chief Commercial Officer

Role type: Exempt

Travel: Up to 25% for store builds, installations, and activations

Compensation range: $75,000 - $95,000 annually

The Role

The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating high-quality visual assets that support brand consistency across all shop locations and customer touchpoints. This role executes design needs for marketing campaigns, product packaging, in-store signage, store environment graphics, digital content, and sales collateral. This role serves as a hands-on steward for brand design, strengthening and evolving the PopUp Bagels identity across digital, physical, and experiential channels. The Graphic Designer collaborates closely with Marketing, Operations, and Franchise Development teams to ensure designs are aligned with brand standards and optimized for both digital and physical environments.

What You’ll Do:

In-Store Design & Shop Experience

  • Execute creative aspects of in-store design, including interior aesthetic, signage, wall art, lighting elements, finishes, merchandising fixtures, menu boards, and customer experience flow.
  • Support store design initiatives by producing renderings, mockups, and visual guidelines that help corporate and franchisee shops interpret brand standards.
  • Maintain store design playbooks and standards for both corporate and franchised locations.
  • Design environmental graphics, decals, murals, neon placements, and brand installations.
  • Conduct site visits and travel as needed to evaluate buildouts, guide installations, and ensure quality and alignment with the brand vision.
  • Partner with Operations, Facilities, Buildout Teams, and Franchisees to ensure stores reflect brand identity and meet functional needs.

 

Packaging Design

  • Lead design and evolution of all packaging—cups, bags, lids, containers, labels, in-store merchandise, and takeaway materials.
  • Develop all seasonal, collaboration-based, and limited-edition packaging concepts.
  • Oversee vendor coordination, development, proofing, printing, and production quality.

Creative Design

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into effective design solutions.
  • Maintain and enforce brand identity guidelines across all visual outputs.
  • Produce digital assets for website, app, and online ordering platforms.
  • Concept and create assets across digital, product, merchandising, packaging, and in-store platforms.
  • Design all assets for partnerships, promotions, and events.
  • Prepare final design files for print production, ensuring accuracy in color, layout, and specifications.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Assist with photo editing, retouching, and asset management for brand and product imagery.

What We’re Looking For

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of professional graphic design experience, preferably in retail, food & beverage, hospitality, or franchising environments.
  • Demonstrated experience producing packaging, environmental graphics, and marketing collateral.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing digital, print, and environmental design work.
  • Experience preparing files for print production and working with vendors.
  • Expertise in environmental/experiential design and packaging design.
  • Creative Range: Proven ability to work across visual identity, digital, packaging, photography, OOH, and in-store environments.
  • Cultural Fluency: Ability to distinguish between fads and lasting cultural relevance— knows what’s trending, what’s timeless, and what aligns with the PopUp Bagels vibe.
  • Detail-Driven: Obsessive about craft, polish, and execution—no detail is too small.
  • Hands-On: Comfortable rolling up your sleeves to design assets.
  • Collaborative: Strong interpersonal skills; able to partner with diverse stakeholders from founders to franchisees.
  • Flexibility: Willing to travel to oversee store builds, installations, and activations.
  • Location: Based in New York (preferred), with ability to work hybrid/remote as needed.

 

Skills & Competencies

  • Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects) and/or Figma.
  • Strong understanding of layout, typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy.
  • Ability to interpret and develop brand guidelines and maintain consistency across channels.
  • Familiarity with packaging design, dielines, and production requirements.
  • Understanding of environmental and in-store design elements.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize and execute in equal measure to further brand strategy and vision.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to travel 10-25% to oversee store builds, installations, and activations.
