Job Description

Field Service Technician – Electrical Testing

Location: Omaha, NE | Full-Time

Summary

Our client is a leading provider of electrical testing and field services, partnering with clients across industrial and commercial sectors to ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of their power systems. As part of their skilled field service team, you’ll play a key role in testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical distribution equipment ranging from low to high voltage systems. This is a great opportunity for a driven technician who enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving in dynamic environments, and being part of a team that values precision and safety. If you’re passionate about electrical systems and want to deepen your expertise while working on critical infrastructure, this role is built for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform field testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and data collection on low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems (480V to 600kV) at customer sites
  • Conduct testing on power and instrument transformers, including insulation resistance, TTR, and Doble testing
  • Test and calibrate electromechanical and solid-state protective relays
  • Execute cable diagnostics and testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot)
  • Inspect and troubleshoot automatic transfer switches (ATS)
  • Perform testing and maintenance on switchgear and circuit breakers across voltage classes
  • Conduct moderate to complex relay calibrations and power metering verification
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and respond promptly to customer emergencies
  • Complete accurate field reports, maintain test data records, and adhere to all safety protocols

You bring at least 2 years of hands-on experience with electrical testing and troubleshooting of switchgear and distribution systems. You hold (or are working toward) a NETA certification or have equivalent military or technical training. You’re a self-starter who enjoys working in the field, traveling to job sites, and collaborating with customers and teammates to solve challenges safely and efficiently.
